How to Repair Cars and Master Vehicle Missions in Mafia 3

Driving is fundamental to navigating the world of Mafia 3, and missions often rely heavily on your ability to control vehicles. One such mission, which might initially seem tricky, involves commandeering a bus and keeping it moving above a certain speed. Let’s break down how to successfully complete this mission and, more broadly, how to handle vehicles effectively in Mafia 3.

This particular mission challenges players to take control of a bus and maintain a speed of over 30 mph for five minutes. Many players initially find the bus hijacking mechanic confusing, but it’s actually quite straightforward once you know the trick.

To initiate the takeover, you’ll need to approach the bus from its left side while driving a car. Speed is of the essence here. Before starting the mission, ensure you’re in a fast vehicle to catch up to the bus quickly. A car like the Eckhart Elite is a good choice, allowing you to intercept the bus, for example, around the Terranova Bridge. Time is limited, so swift action is crucial to prevent the bus from crashing, which would fail the mission.

Once you’re positioned alongside the bus on its left, a prompt will appear, instructing you to press the “F” key (on PC) to enter the bus. Executing this prompt will teleport you directly into the driver’s seat of the bus, completing the hijacking.

Now, the core challenge begins: maintaining a speed above 30 mph for five minutes. Fortunately, the game is more forgiving than older versions might have been. Instead of instantly failing if you drop below the speed limit, you’re given a 5-second grace period to accelerate back above 30 mph. A safe strategy is to aim for a slightly higher speed, around 35-45 mph, especially when approaching inclines where the bus might naturally lose speed.

Choosing a route is less critical than maintaining speed. A viable path could involve a tour of the city’s main roads. Starting from Terranova Bridge, you could navigate around North Park, cross the Giuliani Bridge, proceed through Central Island via the West Harbor Bridge, and then turn right at the first junction to head towards Little Italy. Depending on your remaining time, you might even reach the West River Tunnel. Referencing the game map can help you visualize and plan your route.

It’s important to initiate the bus takeover on a road section marked in black on the map. Attempting to do so elsewhere may lead to the bus crashing before you can gain control.

While this mission doesn’t directly involve repairing cars, it highlights the importance of vehicle handling and mission preparedness in Mafia 3. Although Mafia 3 does not feature a detailed car repair system where you fix individual components, understanding how to manage vehicles, especially during timed or speed-sensitive missions, is crucial for success. To “repair” your car in Mafia 3 in a general sense, you would typically acquire a new vehicle if your current one becomes too damaged, or utilize garages within the game to obtain fresh, undamaged cars. Mastering vehicle control and strategic driving is your best approach to keeping your rides in good condition throughout your time in New Bordeaux.
