Since 1961, a cornerstone of automotive service began its journey when B&J Motors first opened its doors. Founded by the vision of Bill Zumwalt, Jack White, and Bud Tracy, the company initially established itself on Folsom Blvd, east of Sunrise Blvd. By 1963, demonstrating rapid growth and a commitment to serving the Sacramento community, A and J Auto Repair, as it became known, relocated to its present, more expansive location at the intersection of Folsom Blvd and Kilgore Rd.
The legacy of A and J Auto Repair in Sacramento continued to evolve under new stewardship. In 1973, Buzz Chamblis took ownership, followed by Frank Andrews Jr. in 1975. Frank Andrews Jr. further solidified the company’s direction by appointing Rick Johnson as General Manager and Steve Messner as Body Shop Manager. This pivotal moment in 1980 saw Rick and Steve acquire A and J Auto Repair from Frank Andrews, officially incorporating it as A and J Body Shop, Inc., marking a new chapter for auto repair in Sacramento.
Rick and Steve’s leadership cemented the core values that define A and J Auto Repair Sacramento today: exceptional service, industry-leading repair quality, and transparent, fair pricing. These principles, delivered by a team of dedicated and skilled employees, quickly established A and J Auto Repair as a trusted name in the Rancho Cordova area and greater Sacramento region. The company’s commitment extended beyond just business, as A and J Body Shop became deeply involved in community initiatives within Rancho Cordova, reflecting their dedication to the people they served. The team expanded further in 1986 with the addition of Dan Charlebois, who, starting as a tow truck driver, quickly rose through the ranks to become a partner in 1996. Mike Passof joined in 1990, bringing further expertise and becoming the Body Shop Manager by 1999, sharing the same customer-focused vision. To meet growing demand and enhance service capabilities, A and J Auto Repair invested in a state-of-the-art paint shop in 1998, ensuring they could continue to provide top-tier auto repair services to an expanding customer base in Sacramento and beyond.
